The American Veterinary Medical Association put together a panel of 14 experts, the Council on Biologic and Therapeutic Agents, who researched the scientific data available on this subject for three years. They presented their findings at the AVMA Convention
in 2001.

Findings were published in
November 2002.

For 50 years clients have perceived the reason to visit the Vet once each year
is for the shots. Veterinarians must
educate their clients that the real value
to an annual visit is the physical exam.

The number one focus was on the fact
that most of the vaccines we give
annually have no effect. Antibodies
from the first vaccine block subsequent
vaccines.

Richard Hill was there from the
USDA. He promised to revise the
standards for licensure of vaccines

No data is required to show the
maximum amount of time a vaccine
is good for.

The AVMA COBTA does not
recommend titers.
AAHA dose not recommend titers.
AAHA has pointed out that a positive titer does show the patient will be immune for 7 years, and that cell mediated immunity has been
stimulated.

It has been three years since Richard
Hill promised to revise the standards
for licensure. Since that time the USDA
has licensed Giardia and Ringworm
vaccines which don’t work, and FIP and
FIV vaccines which do not contain the
virus that actually causes these diseases.
The American Association of Feline Practitioners even wrote the USDA
and asked them not to license FIP vaccine

Veterinarians should report adverse reactions. You the pet owner, should
be familiar with the FDA-Adverse Drug Experience web site.
See www.fda.ada.gov  before you
give your pet any new product. The
life you save may be someone you love.

From the FDA.ADE web site as of
5/04. I would not give this drug to my dog. Monthly oral medications have been on the market for 17 years with much safer track records.

(HW=heartworms)

Monthly heartworm preventative medications stay in the system only
one day. They work by killing any larvae in migration from any mosquito bites in
the last 45 days. If your pet has a reaction to a sustained release
product that stays in the body for 6 months this is a very severe problem.

click on "animal Feeds & Drugs; then click annual/Cumulative Reports; the download takes 12 minutes - so it's
time for a refreshment break!)

heartworms.

An X ray of a normal lung pattern.

The cloudy patches in the lungs are
blood clots in the lungs due to the
death of heartworms after Proheart 6
® administration.

It has been proven that Heartgard®
can rarely cause seizures in Collies, Shelties, and Austrian Shepherds. I
have seen seven cases of this plus
one Irish Setter, one Old English
Sheep Dog and one Schnauzer.

Dogs getting heartworms in spite of
being on Revolution
® is another type
of adverse side effect reported to the FDA.

Rimadyl may be getting a bad rap because it was the first and most popular NSAID. Until more is known
we do not recommend it at Critter Fixer
Pet Hospital.

MANY DOGS HAVE DIED
from INDISCRETIONARY use
of NSAIDS like
Rimadyl DERMAXX & ETODOLAC. See the NSAID handout in our library.

The AVMA Council on Biologic and Therapeutic Agents published their
guidelines, available from the AVMA.

My dog ( a pure breed” Hooligan” ) Nanuq
was vaccinated at 8 & 12 weeks for DHPP,
at 4 months for rabies  & one year later for Rabies & DHPP. I am through vaccinating
and I am confident he is protected.
This protocol is what I have administered for 30,000 clients over
the last 7 years with no vaccine breaks.
